Setting Up Online Business – Sidestep These Major Mistakes
While setting up online business, as with any new venture, there can be many mistakes to make.
Unless you have experience working online, then there is a whole new world to come to grips with.
While it will be close to impossible to completely avoid all mistakes, I hope to give some guidance, to help you avoid or correct those errors, which could prove fatal to your business.
Major Mistake Number One – No Real Focus
Initial research into potential online business opportunities, appears to offer an infinite number of possibilities. This can be very exciting and positive, providing you can eventually be decisive and concentrate on your chosen field.
Without the necessary focus, it is easy to be tempted into continuing your research, gathering all the information you believe is necessary, thinking you need to qualify as an expert in your own eyes.
Sooner rather than later, we must take the plunge and get the business under way, otherwise we can fall victim to the next big mistake.
When the research phase goes on too long, it is possible to become more and more fearful about taking meaningful action.
Once you are under way, changes can be made. While you remain ‘paralysed by your analysis’, nothing will happen, other than your suffering more and more with information overload. So, make a decision and then take action.
Another reason to develop your focus, is the need to avoid the next possible major mistake; this one affects many novice online entrepreneurs and proves fatal for some.
Shiny Object Syndrome
Once you have your big idea and have chosen the business niche in which you want to be successful, it can be too easy to continually chase the latest so-called killer idea.
There are people out there who make their living, by preying on internet novices. They are the latest in a long line of ‘snake-oil’ salesmen, highly skilled with smoke and mirrors.
Their chosen field is to convince us that they have the latest secret to millions, whether it is some push-button software, or a brand new system to fool Google etc., into giving you an easy way to riches.
While the world is changing more quickly all the time, there really is still no easy short-cut route to real business success.
The key is to find a proven business model and discover your own way to fit it into your life. This can be made simpler, by avoiding the next possible mistake.
Setting Up Online Business and Going It Alone
This is a very easy mistake to make; I know, I tried it myself for far too long. Being moderately well-educated and appreciating the vast amount of information so easily accessible, why not simply do it yourself?
For every person who can do this and be really successful, I believe there are at least fifty, who benefit by working with others, to educate themselves and develop their business along proven lines.
As with the ‘shiny object’ salesmen, there are many out there who purport to be the world’s best online business coach.
Many of them peddle out-of-date ideas, systems and software. They have proved to be adept at stealing, copying and plagiarising, so that their pitch will fool many novices into parting with their money.
Most people who have worked online for more than a couple of years can spot these charlatans fairly quickly. There are signs to look for, but their marketing becomes ever more sophisticated, so it really does continue to be a case of ‘buyer beware’.
Avoiding the above errors – lack of focus, paralysis by analysis, shiny object syndrome and going it alone – should put you ahead of the pack when setting up online business.
